THE QLS UNIVERSAL BELT LOOP (QUBL) is a handy shank/belt loop attachment.
 
Initially, we thought it was hype—but after running it for a while, we realized its implications. Vertical adjustment, locked by way of a tab behind the holster, is exceedingly simple.
 
Like many new officers early in their careers, it was easy to see the benefit of low-ride holsters: the draw was more relaxed, not as high in the shoulder, and—though we’d learn this later—low-rides were what was available at the local PX. We could never find those mid-rides... and it turns out there was a reason for that. Once we started working in the real world, in and out of patrol vehicles, it became abundantly clear: low-rides were not optional. Sitting in the seats would hike your belt up at an angle and into your hip.
 
And so you see—it was a non-starter. And so it remained, for a decade.
 
But now we’ve tried the QUBL. Hesitant but willing to learn, it was honestly shocking how useful it was. Patrol vehicles have changed—and for the better. It seems like seats now have better holster placement voids. And switching from an SUV into a sedan? It was nice to know you could just pop that tab, slide your holster down, and resecure it into comfort.
 
We thought there might be some potential for issues—say, if a user forgot to lock the slider. But honestly, it’s pretty difficult to forget. And we tested it: if you did forget to lock it and drew out anyway, the worst that would happen is your holster traveling into the upper limit and releasing from there—part of the drawstroke anyway.
 
The QLS receiver is a nice touch as well. If you need to secure your firearm at the jail, for instance, you can keep it safe in the holster while disconnecting it from your person. (We stock the QLS receiver too.)
 
All in all, it’s nice to have the performance of low-rides back, with the seating advantages of the mids. NG approved.
