No strangers to duty holsters, we've run Safariland gear our entire careers. Credit where it’s due—Safariland’s innovation changed the game. The implementation of the SLS (hood) with ALS (switch) system was a milestone: it let us reach higher readiness while keeping control of the weapon and minimizing the chance of losing it during a chase, arrest, or screw-up.
 
We fully back the Level 3 configuration and argue the drawstroke is actually faster than a standard Level 2 SLS-only holster.
 
The 6000 Series still uses a suede-like liner. Before ALS came along, we noticed that lining could slow the draw—especially if your mechanics weren’t perfect. And sure, “train harder,” but let’s be real: gear should work even when you don’t. We reserve the right to have off days.
 
With ALS, that friction drops off. The system spaces the gun off the liner, your thumb lands naturally, and draw-to-fire times go down. We've tested it. We still prefer the 6000 Series over the 7000 due to better fitment when running weapon mounted lights and our preference for molded thermoplastic over injection-molded styles.
 
Bottom line: Level 3 ALS/SLS gets the NG stamp. Proven, practical, and built for the realities of the job
